[english text see below] Donny und Roman traf ich erstmals bei wunderschönen Herbststimmungen in Zürich vor dem Chinagarten. Donny’s Familie stammt aus China. Der Garten war aber nicht unser Ziel, denn dieser hatte bereits Winterpause. Wir genossen die schöne Herbststimmung entlang des Zürichsees und hatten viel Spass beim Paarshooting. Später wechselten wir dann rüber zur urbanen Architektur des Bahnhof Stadelhofen und wärmten uns bei Kaffee und heisser Schockolade wieder etwas auf.

Gleichgeschlechtliche Partnerschaften können in der Schweiz seit Anfang 2007 ‘eingetragen’ oder ‘registriert’ werden - so formel und unromantisch lautet die Bezeichnung von offizieller Seite her. Ein kleiner Wink an die Standesbeamten;-) Die ‘Registrierung’ ist für Donny und Roman aber viel mehr als ein formeller Schritt, das spürt man sofort, ist man mit den beiden zusammen. Ich freue mich sehr auf die morgige Partnerschaftstrauung, an einem Datum, dessen Zahl für die beiden magisch ist…

I met Donny and Roman for the first time in front of Zurich’s Chinese Garden. Donny’s family is Chinese, but we did not intend to visit the garden, as it was already in it’s off-season break. It was the amazing fall foliage we were after, to capture their love and togetherness and we were rewarded with some wonderful colors. Later on, we’ve relocated to the Stadelhofen train station for a change towards more modern and urban surroundings, in which they spend their daily life in. And finally, some coffee and hot chocolate gave back warmth and a few moments to talk over the details of their soon come wedding.

Same sex couples can officiate in Switzerland since the beginning of 2007. It’s a formal act, legally, but far more for Donny and Roman and other couples in love as they are. I’m very exited and looking forward to photograph their wedding, which will take place this Saturday, a magic date for both…

Wann soll man seinen Hochzeitsfotografen buchen? Möglichst frühzeitig natürlich, vor allem wenn man auswählen möchte. Aber was heisst das?

Meine Buchungen für das kommende Jahr sind vor einiger Zeit angelaufen. Zurzeit sind noch viele Termine offen, doch es liegen in allen Monaten der Hauptsaison 2010 erste Buchungen vor. Ich fotografiere pro Freitag oder Samstag maximal je eine Hochzeit ab einer Mindestdauer von 8 Stunden. Die Termine sind somit also limitiert.

Küss mich im Jahr 2010? Das folgende Hochzeitsfoto machte ich im Juni 2009 in Baden, Schweiz. Das Hochzeitspaar sitzt in der Ritschka, die in der oberen, linken Ecke vorbei fährt. Etwas mehr wird man von den beiden hier demnächst sehen. Denn ja, versprochen, ich nehme mir fest vor nun im Herbst, wenn die aktuelle Hochzeitssaison etwas ausklingt, hier einige Hochzeitsreportagen aus dem Jahr 2009 zu zeigen.

Kiss me - Küss mich in 2010? I took this wedding photo past June 2009 in Baden, Switzerland. Bride and Groom are passing by in the ritschka you can see in the top-left corner of the image. You will soon be seeing more of this couple’s wedding here - promissed, I’ll be blogging more pix from the slowly fading out wedding season as more time becomes available.

The question about when to book your wedding photographer is one I get asked every now and then. As early as possible, especially if you would like to be able to choose. But what exactly does this mean?

Bookings for 2010 have started a while ago. As of October 2009, I do have bookings in every month of the main wedding season 2010. I am taking a max of one booking per Friday and Saturday for a wedding reportage of a minimal duration of 8 hours. Which means dates are limited, but many are still available.

Eigentlich war ich nie ein grosser Wettbewerbs-Teilnehmer, aber vergangenen Frühling nahm ich nun doch erstmals einen Anlauf mit vorwiegend Hochzeitsfotos aus dem Jahr 2008. Ich entschied mich für den International Photography Award (IPA), weil dieser im Unterschied zu manch anderem Fach-Wettbewerb von einer breit abgestützten Jury bewertet wird.

Dementsprechend freue ich mich nun auch über die fünf Bilder, welche mit “Honorable Mentions” gewürdigt wurden.

I’ve never been active in photo-competitions, but I gave it a first try this past spring, by submitting some wedding photos from the 2008 wedding season. The chosen competition was the International Photography Award (IPA), which is judged by a broad and competent jury.

I felt really honored to have received “honorable mentions” for these five photos.

Diese ersten beiden Hochzeitsfotos entstanden im Frühling 2008 am See in Luzern und im schönen, nahe gelegenen Art Deco Hotel Montana. Das Brautpaar reiste für seine Trauung aus Südkalifornien nach Luzern, wo wir fotografierend eine wunderbare Zeit miteinander verbrachten. Und nicht nur die schönen Hochzeitsfotos der beiden sind Teil der einmaligen Erinnerung: Noch während den vielen Emails und Telefongesprächen vor der Hochzeit schlüpften ich und mein Assistent in die ehrenvolle Trauzeugen-Rolle.

Michelle und Nate wurden hier aber bereits einmal gezeigt, als ein Bild der beiden in einem Artikel über Trends in der Hochzeitsfotografie gezeigt wurde.

These two first wedding photos have been taken during spring 2008 at the lake in Lucerne and in the beautiful nearby Art Deco Hotel Montana. Michelle and Nate live in South California and they traveled to Lucerne to get married. We’ve spent a wonderful time together taking pictures and while connecting and talking through all the details by phone and mail, I and my assistant were asked to also take over the honorable mission be their two best men - witness, as we call it here.

And yes, some may have seen another photo of the two, the one which was featured in an article about trends in wedding photography.

Das nächste gewürdigte Hochzeitsbild entstand während einer Ziviltrauung in Wädenswil. Die Situation war einfach rührend und die beiden Blumenmädchen wollten wohl einfach genau sehen, was da mit den beiden Ringen passiert, die sie hingetragen haben.

The next honored wedding photo shows a couple during a civil wedding ceremony in Wädenswil, together with their two flower girls.

We had so much fun during the portrait session of this wedding in summer 2008 as the next photo just perfectly shows. No reason to be in a bad mood just because of a few gray clouds. The photo was taken at the peer of Weggis Park Hotel - a great locations, where I will actually be again this Saturday, for the second time in 2009.

Ja, die beiden sind sportlich und nein, er sprang nicht in den See und sie liesen sich vom grauen Himmel auch in keinster Weise die Laune verderben. Wir hatten viel Spass bei der Portrait-Session und das Bild zeigt dies wunderbar. Entstanden ist es übrigens beim Steg des erstklassigen Park Hotel Weggis - eine meiner Lieblings-Locations, an welcher ich zum zweiten Mal dieses Jahr auch kommenden Samstag wieder sein werde.

Und zu guter Letzt noch ein Bild, das bei einem Paarshooting anfangs dieses Jahres entstand und welches ich in die Kategorie “Portrait” einreichte.

And last but not least, this photo was submitted to the portrait category of the International Photography Awards. It was shot earlier this year during an engagement portrait session.

Nachdem wir schon ein paar Mal telefonisch über die verschiedenen Fotografie-Möglichkeiten für die Hochzeit im späteren Herbst gesprochen haben, war’s für mich nun eine grosse Freude Sabina und Fabrice erstmals zusammen zu treffen. Zuerst gönnten wir uns einen Drink in die Seebar des KKL und tauschten uns über den aktuellen Stand der Hochzeitsdetails aus.

Danach ging’s los: Das Paarshooting gestalteten wir als Spaziergang durch Luzern. Wir hatten sichtlich Spass dabei und die beiden mir ihrer guten Laune und fröhlichen Natur machten meinen Job wieder einmal zum absoluten Vergnügen.

After having discussed the photo ideas for their wedding by phone, it was a great pleasure to meet Sabina and Fabrice in Lucerne for their engagement session. First, we enjoyed the lake-side bar of the congress and convention center with a drink and chatted about the little wedding details.

We then started the engagement session as a walk through Lucerne, which was great fun, as they were in such a good mood and their happy nature mady my being a photographer a real pleasure, again.

Danke euch beiden, es hat enorm Spass gemacht, ja ich liebe diese Faxen und freue mich schon jetzt auf den grossen Tag in Basel und Weggis!

Die Hochzeitssaison ist in vollem Gange und da ist es höchste Zeit, dass ich hier endlich Mal wieder einige Eindrücke der vielen gemachten Hochzeitsfotos zeige! Im frühen Mai fotografierte ich Sibylle und Joe’s Hochzeit auf dem schönen Schloss Lenzburg - eine absolut einzigartige Location.

Wärend Sibylles Familie, wie ich, aus der Region Zürich eine kurze Anreise hatten, brachten Joes Gäste aus den USA und viele Freunde der beiden, die inzwischen am Genfersee zuhause sind, eine einmalige, internationale Mischung und Stimmung auf’s Schloss. Einzig das Wetter wollte nicht so ganz mithalten, aber der der guten Laune vermochte dies nichts anzuhaben und im Festsaal schien sowieso die helle warme Sonne der Liebe:-)

Yes, the wedding season has started since a while and it’s about time that I show some of the many photos here in the blog. In early May, I had had the pleasure to photograph Sibylle’s and Joe’s wedding at the beautiful Lenzburg castle - a trueliy unique location.

Lenzburg is close from Zurich and was easy to reach for me and most of Sibylle’s family. Quite a bit further was the journey for Joe’s family, that travelled to Switzerland from the US. They and many of their friends from the lake Geneva area, where they live now, brought an international flair to the wedding day. The mood was so great and the party lasted long - no chance for the rainy weather to change it at all.
