3rd overall ranking in the wedding photographer deluxe contest

Es gibt zahlreiche Hochzeitsfotografen Portale. Doch ich kenne kein weiteres, dass mit seinen Aufnahmekriterien so restriktiv und konsequent ist, wie Hochzeitsfotografen Deluxe (HfD). Es vereint einige der kreativsten und besten Hochzeitsfotografen aus dem deutschsprachigen Europa und führt einmal pro Jahr einen internen Wettbewerb durch.

Ich freue mich sehr über meinen 3. Platz in der Gesamtwertung!

Zudem ist es für mich ein ganz spezieller Erfolg, dass mehrere meiner Bilder es in die Top-10 der Reportage-nahen Kategorien “Der Moment” und “Feier/Tanz/Gäste” geschafft haben.

Ich möchte hier an dieser Stelle noch all den anderen Gewinnern und Kollegen gratulieren und ihnen für den immer so offenen und positiven Austausch danken, vor allem Marco Schwarz, Yannic Schon & Susann Probst, Guido Leifhelm und Senta Schindler.

“Wedding photographer deluxe” is probably the wedding photographer portal with the most stringently handled admission criteria. Among it’s small number of less than 40 photographers are some of the best from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Being the only current member from Switzerland, I am very happy and honored to win the third overall price in this years internal annual competition. Over 700 photos were submitted and, as a photojournalistic photographer, I am particularly proud that all four of my images photos submitted to the “wedding reception” category made it into the top-10 and two of my photos score first and second in the “moment” category.

In der Wüste von Abu Dhabi zu Heiraten ist ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis – eine exklusivere und einmaligere Hochzeitslocation findet man nicht so schnell. Sandra und Urs haben sich diesen Traum erfüllt.

Getting married in the desert of Abu Dhabi is exciting, very exclusive and a simply unique experience. Sandra and Urs made their dream destination wedding come true!

Doch bevor’s für mich richtig los ging, stand ein intensives Wochenende an: Erst fotografierte ich bei Zürich eine ebenfalls wunderschöne Hochzeit bis spät Samstag nachts. Sonntags wurden dann die Kameras umgepackt und lost ging’s von Kloten nach Dubai. Während ich selber noch im Flieger sass, fand im Traumresort Quasr Al Sarab aber bereits die wunderschöne Hochzeitsfeier statt, welche Andreas Feusi fotografierte.

Montags früh nach der Landung fuhr ich nun im Mietwagen mitten durch die imposante Skyline von Dubai in Richtung Abu Dhabi und von dort 150km landeinwärts mitten in die Wüste. Die als 3-stündige Autofahrt geplante lokale Anreise verlängerte sich dank unzähliger Baustellen, Umwegen, einigem Hin und Her zu einer 5-stündigen Suchfahrt. Doch als ich dann wirklich mitten in der Wüste im Hotel ankam, da war dies alles sehr schnell vergessen: Traumhaft!

Nach einem Welcome Drink, einer kühlen Dusche ging’s dann schnell raus zur Suite des Scheichs und in Richtung Dünen. Sandra und Urs, frisch verheiratet und glücklich, liesen sich in Ihren wunderschönen Hochzeitskleidern die 40 Grad im Schatten gar nicht anmerken und wir fotografierten zwei Stunden voll durch, bis zum malerischen Sonnenuntergang.

For me, the entire experience started with an intense weekend: After shooting a beautiful local wedding in Zurich, late into Saturday night, I packed my bags and all camera gear for my Sunday night flight to Dubai. And whilst I was just about to depart, Andreas Feusi already photographed the wedding ceremony in the Desert resort.

Early Monday, after landing and picking up my rental car, I drove through the impressive Dubai skyline, then to Abu Dhabi and from there another 150 kilometers straight into the desert. But road signs and directions change a lot in the emirates, due to hundreds of construction sites and my driving route, which was initially planed to last three hours, suddenly took over five. Nevertheless, arriving at the beautiful resort in the middle of sand dunes made me forget all the hassle. It was such a stunning impression!

After a refreshing welcome drink and a cooling shower, we quickly drove over to the sheiks suite, towards the dunes. There we met Sandra and Urs in their wedding dresses, ready for the wedding portrait session. Yes, it was 40 degree Celsius, but no one of us really cared. We kept going for a two hours photoshoot for some really nice destination wedding portraits, right until sunset.

Am nächsten Tag ging’s dann Richtung Dubai, wo wir noch ein paar Tage zusammen mit Sandra und Urs und ihren Freunden weiter feierten und viele exotische Sehenswürdigkeiten besuchten, bevor sich die beiden dann in Ihre Flitterwochen zurückzogen.

The next day, we all travelled back to Dubai to hang out together the Sandras and Urs’ families and friends, celebrating the newly weds for a few more days, before they left for their honeymoon.

Today, I received a message via Facebook from a bride’s mother. It makes me happy, when my photography is telling the story of a wedding day. That’s the most important aspect of wedding photography, in my opinion:

Thank you so much for the outstanding album of pictures you took on our children’s wedding day. You captured the day so beautifully in so many ways! We feel as though we can revisit their wedding from beginning to end because of the fantastic pictures you took.

Ein Blog-Beitrag mit Bildern eines Fotoshootings in Zürich passt im Moment gleich aus mehreren Gründen perfekt:

Zuallererst hat das Paar-Fotoshooting mit Sevilay und Daniele hier in Zürich am See einfach enorm viel Spass gemacht! Die beiden sind ein total sympatisches und hübsches Paar und ich freue mich riesig auf ihre Hochzeit diesen Samstag. Sie wird ebenfalls in der Gegend stattfinden: Zuerst mit den Vorbereitungen im Zürcher Oberland, dann folgt die Trauung in Rapperswil und zur Feier geht’s nach Zürich.

Weiter war ich die letzten Wochen etwas stark durch meinen Umzug absorbiert. Mitten in meiner ‘Hochsaision’ als Hochzeitsfotograf – bis im September stehen jede Woche eine oder zwei Hochzeiten auf dem Zeitplan – war dies ein ziemlich intensives Unterfangen. Aber nun ist der grosse Brocken bewältigt und mein Büro in Rüschlikon gibt’s definitiv nicht mehr. Die offizielle Adresse von Philippe Wiget Photography ist nun die des Fotostudios hier in Zürich.

Blogging photos of a Zurich engagement photo-shoot makes sense in many ways, right now:

First of all because it was really great fun to meet Sevilay and Daniele for their photosession here at the lake. They are such an adorable and beautiful couple and I’m very much looking forward to their wedding this Saturday, which will take place at various places around the lake.

In addition, I’ve been quite absorbed by my move, which is done now. My previous office address in Rüschlikon does nomore exist and Philippe Wiget Photography now officially resides here at the photostudio in Zurich.
